Shakeup at DNC Goes On |in Wake of Email Dump

(CN) - The chief executive of the Democratic National Committee was among top party officials who resigned Tuesday in the wake of an email hack that revealed the organization actively sought to torpedo the candidacy of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders while bolstering Hillary Clinton's bid for the White House.

The party's bias was revealed by Wikileaks with the release of 19,253 hacked emails and more than 8,000 attachments on the eve of the Democratic convention in Philadelphia.

Wikileaks described the disclosures as "part one of our new Hillary Leaks series."

On Tuesday, the party released a statement saying CEO Amy Dacey, chief finance officer Brad Marshall and communications director Luis Miranda all left their jobs today.

Marshall wrote the most explosive of all the emails, questioning Sanders' Jewish faith and suggesting he could be portrayed as an atheist.

He later apologized for the statements.

Party chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned her position the Sunday before the convention began, and, after being booed at a pre-convention appearance in Philadelphia, chose not to address the delegates during the four-day event.

Longtime Democratic operative Donna Brazile, a well-known and well-respected television commenter, is serving as the party's interim chair.

Brazile said Tuesday that she has created a "transition team" to help prepare the party for its post-election mission. She said Tom McMahon, a former DNC executive director under then-Chair Howard Dean, will lead that group.

A number of Clinton operatives are also now in new positions at DNC headquarters. These include Brandon Davis, who is now the party's chief of staff, and Doug Thornell, a longtime strategist who will now serve as a senior advisor to the party.
