ST. LOUIS (CN) - Admitting they used "poor judgment," the owners of a nightclub that hosted a sex party are voluntarily surrendering their liquor license to the city.
Police and city liquor control officers sent an investigator to pose as a patron on May 14 at Red 7, a nightclub in south St. Louis.
At the "Couples Only" event, officers found women with their shirts unbuttoned and clothing removed, couples openly fondling each other and groups having oral sex, according to a city report.
"The Owners of The Red 7 take full responsibility for the recent situation and apologize for putting those around us in an uncomfortable position," co-owner Jeff Koenigs wrote in an email, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We used poor judgment in allowing this group into our schedule and it has cost us dearly."
By voluntarily surrendering the license, the club is effectively shut down. But the voluntary surrender allows the owners to apply for another liquor license and open another club, though probably not in the same building.
If the owners had allowed the case to go to a hearing, they could have lost their license and been barred from playing any role in a city bar for years.
