Seven Sentenced in|’Fast & Furious’ Fiasco

SAN DIEGO (CN) - Seven defendants in the ill-fated "Fast and Furious" gun sting were sentenced to federal prison this week.

Republican politicians have made much hay, called an investigation and demanded Attorney General Eric Holder's head after it was revealed that some guns from the poorly executed sting ended up in the hands of Mexican drug cartels, and at least one was used to kill a U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

The seven defendants sentenced this week "were responsible for the illegal straw purchase and/or transportation of approximately 400 firearms," the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement.

Sentenced Wednesday were Jaime Avila Jr., Jose Angel Polanco, Alfredo Celis, Dejan Hercegovac, and Joshua David Moore.

Sentenced Monday were Jonathan Earvin Fernandez and Kenneth James Thompson

Avila, Celis and Moore were each sentenced to 57 months in prison.

Hercegovac got 40 months, Polanco 18 months, Thompson 5 years, and Fernandez 37 months.
