Serial Screw-Ups Led To Stabbing, Couple Says

PHOENIX (CN) - A probation violator stabbed a married couple in their hotel room after Arizona waited 9 months to report that he had absconded and The Scottsdale Plaza Resort left a window open, the couple claims in Superior Court.

The serial screw-ups allowed Juan Castelo, a felon on probation, to sneak into their hotel room and attack them as they slept, say Patrick and Joy Scott.

Patrick was stabbed 15 times and Joy was stabbed in the face and nearly lost her lip, the complaint states.

The Scotts say Castelo absconded from probation in May 2007, but his probation officers did not revoke probation until February this year. They say they were attacked in their sleep on March 8.

They seek damages for negligence. They are represented by Colin Campbell with Osborn Maledon.
