WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CN) - Landowners say a septic tank company dumped sewage containing E. coli and other toxic bacteria into a stream that flows into the Croton Reservoir, which provides drinking water for New York City and Westchester County.
Stephen and Rady Bauer sued Chappaqua Septic and its chief operating officer Brian Murphy in Westchester County Court.
The Bauers say their pond and stream were a sewage-free source of recreation for their children before Chappaqua Septic pumped out the pollutants from its truck in September 2006.
Microbiological samples showed an unsafe level of toxic substances, including E. coli bacteria, and they had to pay to restore the stream and pond to their original condition, the Bauers say.
The Bauers demand $500,000 for damage to their property and the cost of the cleanup. They are represented by Anthony Monteleone.
