BROOKLYN — A federal court in New York sided with a Guatemalan mother and son who were separated from each other for over two years after seeking asylum due to former President Donald Trump’s zero-tolerance immigration policy. Their claims are not barred under the discretionary function exception of the Federal Tort Claims Act, for their separation neither secured the nation’s borders or served the enforcement of federal criminal and immigration laws.
