Senate Confirms|Nevada Federal Judge

(CN) - The Senate on Tuesday confirmed Richard Franklin Boulware II, an assistant federal public defender in Las Vegas, to the U.S. District Court for Nevada. The vote was 58-35.

Boulware, 45, will fill a seat vacant since Dec. 32, 2011, when Judge Philip Pro assumed senior status. Boulware will sit in Las Vegas.

Boulware, of Rochester, Minn., has worked for the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Nevada since 2007. He has been lead attorney on complex white-collar cases since 2010, the Ninth Circuit said in a statement announcing his confirmation. He was a trial attorney for the Federal Defender of New York from 2003-07, and was in private practice before that.

Boulware got his A.B., cum laude, from Harvard in 1993, and his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2002.

With Boulware's confirmation, the Nevada Federal Court has a full bench of its authorized seven benches. The court had 3,485 new filings in 2013: 581 per judge.

Federal courts now have 65 vacancies, with 27 nominees pending, according to the U.S. Courts website.
