Self-Help Legal Center Opened in LA’s Valley

LOS ANGELES (CN) - Los Angeles County Superior Court has opened a new self-help legal aid center in the San Fernando Valley community of Chatsworth, the court said.

The Self-Help Legal Access Center at the Chatsworth courthouse opened Monday. It will serve more than a dozen San Fernando Valley neighborhoods.

Attorneys, paralegals, and trained volunteers will be on hand to offer advice on cases involving domestic violence and civil harassment restraining orders, family actions, name changes, evictions and claims of exemption, the court announced.

A North Valley Self-Help Center at the San Fernando courthouse was closed last week.

"The relocation of the center is being made in order to better serve the residents of the San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita Valley by providing the services within the Chatsworth courthouse, which houses the North Valley District family law courtrooms," the court said in a statement.

Located on the second floor of the Chatsworth courthouse, the new center is one of several county facilities performing the same function.

Additional self-help centers can be found in Antelope Valley, Compton, Inglewood, Long Beach, downtown Los Angeles, Norwalk, Pasadena, Pomona, Santa Monica, Torrance and Van Nuys.
