Security System Didn’t Detect Car, Man Says

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (CN) - A man says he wasted his money on a "top-of-the-line" security system that failed to detect two break-ins one week apart, even when the thieves in the second robbery drove a car through the front doors of his store.

Kumar Roopchan claims the ADT security system failed during the first break-in, and the video cameras failed to record the "several hours" thieves spent emptying his business of about $70,000 in merchandise.

Roopchan says he notified ADT and restocked the store, only to have it robbed seven days later. During the second break-in, thieves drove a car through the front doors, causing so much damage that Roopchan had to shut down the business for the holiday season and lay off four employees, he claims in Knox County Court.

He demands $679,000 for each of six counts, including fraud, misrepresentation, breach of contract and negligence. He is represented by John Boucher Jr. with McGehee Cole.
