SEC Gets New Subchief of Enforcement

WASHINGTON (CN) - The SEC on Thursday appointed New York attorney Stephanie Avakian its deputy director of enforcement.

Avakian is a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, where she specializes in securities. She has worked in the SEC Enforcement Division as a branch chief in the New York Regional Office, and as counsel to SEC Commissioner Paul Carey.

Avakian got her bachelor's degree from the College of New Jersey and her law degree at Temple University's Beasley School of Law.

She will resume work at the SEC in late June.
