SEC crypto rules

PHILADELPHIA — The Third Circuit ordered the Securities and Exchange Commission to provide its reasoning for rejecting Coinbase Inc.’s request for rules clarifying how federal securities laws apply to cryptocurrencies, tokens and other digital assets. While the SEC does not have to institute rule-making proceedings at this point, it does need to provide reasoning that is more sufficient than its prior single-paragraph explanation, the court’s three-judge panel ruled.
