CLEVELAND (CN) - Maybe it's not a good idea to hire criminals to work in public schools. A girl says she was sexually assaulted by a "life skills" coach whom the Amer-I-Can Foundation for Social Change and Mt. Sinai Baptist Church hired with a $300,000 grant from the City of Cleveland.
The student at Martin Luther King Jr. High School says that Keith J. Allen - now in prison - sexually assaulted her after the defendants negligently hired him as a "peace squad facilitator" for "life skills sessions."
"In essence, the program called for the implementation of Peace Squad Facilitators, the majority of whom were ex-convicted criminals, into the School District sites, namely East High School and MLK High School," the complaint states.
The girl says Allen sexually assaulted and battered her while on the clock as a peace squad facilitator, in 2005. The program was supposed to reduce violence in schools.
The girl, now a woman, is represented by Thomas Robenalt in Cuyahoga County Court.
