FORT WORTH, Texas (CN) - A ticket scalper sued the Texas Rangers for refusing to play ball with him. Michael Melendrez says he regularly bought blocks of 100 tickets for $10 apiece and resold them for as much as $75 each - until the Rangers pulled the plug.
Melendrez says the Rangers called him out when he tried to buy tickets to a Rangers-Yankees game on May 25, 2009.
"Mike Lentz of defendant's Group Sales Department called plaintiff and told him that he was canceling the plaintiff's orders stating as a reason that online sales on Stub Hub were prohibited, which was completely untrue as to plaintiff, who had sold no tickets online," Melendrez says in his complaint in Tarrant County Court.
"Mr. Lentz said he had seen the name Melendrez, although it was not in the name of the plaintiff, Mike Melendrez and was not the same as the plaintiff, who had done nothing. Plaintiff also pointed out that even though he had made no online sales the defendant permitted others to make online sales, which the defendant's agent admitted was true."
Melendrez claims he lost $6,500 in profits from the Rangers' actions. He seeks compensatory and punitive damages for fraud and deceptive trade. He is represented by John Knouse of Dallas.
