Save the songbird

TUCSON, Ariz. — Conservationists are petitioning for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect the Bendire thrasher, an imperiled songbird native to the Southwest, under the Endangered Species Act. The species' habitat has already been challenged by climate change and faces a new threat from a proposed 280-mile highway in Arizona.
