SAN DIEGO (CN) - A San Diego police officer was arrested this week and charged with abusing his office to pass sensitive information to drug traffickers. Officer Juan Hurtado Tapia is accused of using his authority to run criminal history checks on drug dealers and giving them the information he found about ongoing investigations.
The FBI heard of Hurtado's involvement during wiretaps, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. The people to whom Hurtado allegedly passed the information were arrested and charged with drug crimes in July. Hurtado was arrested on Tuesday. He is charged with obstructing justice, computer fraud and making false statements.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Hurtado was also known as "Corrupto."
