SAN DIEGO — The California Department of Fish and Wildlife now owns 1,300 acres of wildlands near Chula Vista to be used as a habitat for endangered species. Environmental group sued after the site was initially approved as a residential development that would have paved over critical habitats and increased wildfire risk.
