(CN) - The Federal Court of Australia affirmed a ban Thursday against sales of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1, a product that Apple claims infringes on iPad patents.
Apple sued Samsung in Australia two months ago for patent violations and an injunction, which forced Samsung to delay launching its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer there.
Thursday's ruling confirms the hold on that launch, originally planned for mid-August, until the court can determine whether Samsung violated Apple's iPad patents.
The global fight started in April when Apple sued Samsung in a U.S. federal court, claiming Samsung's Galaxy cell phones and tablet computers "slavishly copy" the design and function of Apple's iPhone and iPad, and that Samsung "even misappropriated Apple's distinctive product packaging."
In Europe, courts in Germany and the Netherlands have barred Samsung from selling the Galaxy tablet and phones in the European Union. The German court recently granted a second injunction.
Samsung filed a counterclaim against Apple last month in Australia, saying the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPad 2 products infringe on "7 Australian patents owned by Samsung related to wireless communications standards."
