$3.7M salvage award

NEW ORLEANS — A Mississippi River push-boat captain and his crew won a salvage award of $3.7 million for risking their safety to corral 23 breakaway barges owned by another maritime business during Hurricane Ida in 2021. A Louisiana federal court issued the award following a bench trial and the unopposed testimony of a marine safety expert, who called the crew’s skill “phenomenal.”
