Stone birds cling to stone greenery on one of the steeples of the Basílica de la Sagrada Família in Barcelona, Spain. Designed by renowned architect Antoni Gaudí and still unfinished — nearly 139 years after construction began — the basilica is a wonder of gothic and Art Nouveau design. Its chief architect said in 2015 that construction of the UNESCO World Heritage Site is 70% complete; the steeples and most of the church structure will be finished by 2026, the centennial of Gaudi’s death, and all decorative elements should be done by 2032.
