Safety Inspector Says Energy Firm Fired Him For Doing His Job

MIAMI (CN) - A safety inspector claims FPL Energy and FPL Group fired him for reporting work-related accidents.

Ken Mullens, an FPL employee since 1979, claims in Federal Court that managers pressured him to change the causes of accidents in his reports, to indicate that FPL was not violating securities laws and regulations, and to make the work environment appear safer than it actually was. After Mullens cooperated with Internal Auditing in an investigation, he says he was no longer allowed access to information on workplace injuries. He seeks back pay, front pay and damages. He is represented by Kathleen Bonczyk.
