A Rwandan man who was living in Iowa was sentenced to 15 years in prison Thursday for playing an active role in his country’s 1994 genocide that killed more than 800,000 people.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A Rwandan man who was living in Iowa was sentenced to 15 years in prison Thursday for playing an active role in his country’s 1994 genocide that killed more than 800,000 people.

Gervais Ngombwa, 57, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Linda Reade, according to the Associated Press.
