Roof Coating Deal Is a Bust, Class Claims

MIAMI (CN) - Florida Power & Light offers incentives for customers to install reflective roofs, but its "trade ally," Douglass Roofing, installed coatings that prevent buildings from breathing, creating moisture buildup that makes the roof disintegrate, a class action claims in Miami-Dade County Court.

FPL made the offers through its Residential Building Envelope Program and Business Building Envelope Program, and approved some contractors as "trade allies," according to the complaint. The FPL program included financial assistance to customers who had reflective coating applied to their roofs. The defendants applied the coatings to composition/asphalt shingles, which is unsuitable, according to the complaint.

Plaintiffs are represented by Andrew Trailor.
