‘Rock of Love’ Producers Settle for $16M

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (CN) - 51 Minds Entertainment, a Hollywood production company, has agreed to settle a personal injury suit involving the "Rock of Love" TV series for $16 million in St. Clair County Court. A company bus was involved in an accident that inured a Florida couple.

"Rock of Love" is a "reality" series on MTV and VH-1, featuring former Poison front-man Brett Michaels. It is a rock-style "Bachelor," with Michaels courting women on a bus tour through the country in a quest of true love.

The show made a stop in the St. Louis area in September 2008, when one of its buses was involved in an accident with William and Colleen Wiley of Tallahassee, Fla. The plaintiffs had to be airlifted to a hospital after being removed from their vehicle with the Jaws of Life, their complaint states. Colleen Wiley suffered six cardiac arrests and other injuries and William Wiley suffered numerous fractures and internal injuries, court papers state.

The Wileys sued MTV, VH-1 Music First, 51 Minds Entertainment and equipment driver Dennis Hernandez. The Wileys said Hernandez lost control after falling asleep while driving a "Rock of Love" equipment bus, causing the accident. Patrick Foppe, the Wiley's attorney, said Hernandez did not have a valid driver's license and tested positive for marijuana after the accident
