WASHINGTON (CN) - The Transportation Department is establishing a real-time program for traffic and travel conditions on major U.S. highways, for state and local governments and the public to use.
The minimum parameters and requirements for states to share traffic and travel conditions using real-time information programs will be put into place first. The Federal Highway Administration plans to require general uniformity among the real-time information programs, but not make the states apply certain types of technology. The department seeks public comment on this matter by April 14.
