Rite-Aid Pays $500K for Deceptive Ads

PITTSBURGH (CN) - Rite-Aid will pay $500,000 to settle an FTC complaint that it falsely advertised its "Germ Defense" pills by claiming they could prevent colds and flu and ameliorate those illnesses. The FTC also is suing Improvita Health Products, Rite-Aid's supplier, in a related complaint.

In an ironic side note, Rite-Aid was accused of pushing its drug by claiming that it was like "Airborne" drugs. Airborne Health settled a similar deceptive-trade complaint with the FTC last year.
