JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CN) - Dozens of people, including Trayvon Martin's mom, stood outside the Duval County Courthouse demanding justice Monday as the retrial of a white man began on a first-degree murder charge of killing a black teenager for playing loud music.
Michael Dunn, 47, was convicted by a jury in February of three counts of attempted murder for shooting a dozen times into an SUV full of teenagers outside a convenience store in November 2013.
But the jury deadlocked on a first-degree murder charge of killing Jordan Davis, 17.
The retrial on the first-degree murder charge began Monday.
People stood outside the Duval Courthouse throughout the day carrying signs such as "Do I Deserve to Be Shot for Playing Loud Music?" and praying that Michael Dunn will face justice.
Trayvon Martin's mother Sybrina Fulton came to Jacksonville to support the Davis family.
Dunn has not been sentenced yet for his previous convictions but faces at least 60 years in prison even if he is found not guilty of first-degree murder.
