COLUMBUS (CN) - The Republican Party sued the Ohio Secretary of State for making it too easy to vote. People in Ohio are being allowed to ask for absentee ballots less than 30 days after they register to vote, say the Republicans.
The Ohio Republican Party says this easy access to absentee ballots will "deprive potentially millions of Ohioans of the equal protection of the laws." They say the state's Directive 2008-63, which allows this freehanded treatment of absentee ballots, violates the First and Fifth Amendment, the Voting Rights Act, the National Voter Registration Act, and the Help America Vote Act.
The Republican Party demands that the Federal Court restrain Ohio from letting registered voters ask for absentee ballots until they've been registered for 30 days.
