CLAYTON, Mo. (CN) - An apartment came with a terrible secret, a family claims in St. Louis County Court. Ryan and Amanda Findlay and their son claim their landlord, Park Meadow Apartment Homes, failed to decontaminate and clean the apartment after the badly decomposed body of its former tenant was found in it.
The Findlays say Park Meadow officials kept the information from them, telling them that the former owner had decided not to renew the lease. The Findlays complained about a strong odor several times, and say the landlord tell them that it was from the previous owner's smoking, or from a dead animal that had gotten into the vent system.
The Findlays found out about the previous tenant's fate after signing the lease agreement and moving in. They seeking actual damages and $500,000 in punitive damages and are represented by Shanna Fulton of St. Louis.
