Remy Ma’s Shooting Victim Sues Rapper

BRONX (CN) - A former friend claims rap singer Remy Ma shot her in the stomach and left her for dead after falsely accusing her of stealing money from the rapper at a birthday party.

Makeda Barnes-Joseph claims the rapper, also known as Remy Martin and Remy Smith, forcibly entered the plaintiff's car at around 3:40 a.m. on July 14, 2007, accused her of stealing money from her at the Pizza Bar, then shot her in the stomach, rifled through her purse, and left her alone and bleeding, without calling for medical help.

The rapper was convicted of assault, attempted murder, a weapons charge and coercion on March 27 this year. She was sentenced to 8 years in prison.

The plaintiff apparently was Ma's friend until the shooting. She demands punitive damages in Bronx County Court.

Smith pka Remy Martin; Remynisce Music Inc.; Sure Shot Recordings Inc. aka Sure Shot Records; Universal Music Group Inc.; Universal Music Investments Inc.; Universal Music Group Distribution Corp.; Universal Music Canada; Pop 3 LLC dba Pizza Bar; and The Pizza Bar Inc.

Plaintiff is represented by Lauren Raysor of Manhattan.
