COLUMBIA, S.C. — A federal court in South Carolina granted a request made by members of the state’s House of Representatives to stay a suit brought by the South Carolina State Conference of the NAACP, which seeks a “concrete, publicized schedule for state actors” to draw new redistricting maps. The next regular legislative session begins on Jan. 11, 2022, and the court ruled the Legislature has until the following week to enact new district maps.
