Reality TV stars’ anti-SLAPP win gets walked back

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The Nevada Supreme Court pushed a defamation and conspiracy lawsuit back to the lower courts, finding an anti-SLAPP motion had been improperly granted to a married couple that met while appearing in the reality television show “90 Day Fiancé.” The TV stars sued the operator of a reality TV news and gossip YouTube channel, “Sharrel’s World,” for defamation after she said the husband used a racial slur and accused the wife of killing three people in Indonesia, among other statements. But they didn’t meet their burden under the first prong of anti-SLAPP analysis and should’ve only partially prevailed on their motion to dismiss, proceeding only on claims related to “unprotected communications.”
