LOS ANGELES (CN) - A man claims he won a contest on TV-One's "reality" show, "Stage Black," but the station gave him only two of the five prizes it promised: $10,000 and a free year of air travel. Quincy Roberson claims the defendants never came through with a promised network acting deal, a role as understudy in defendant David Talbert's show "In the Nick of Tyme," and a role in a national touring company of a Talbert production.
In addition to TV-One and Talbert, Roberson sued Finger One LLC, Edmonds Entertainment, and the alleged co-producers of "Black Stage," Blair Underwood, Morris Chestnut, Tracey Edmonds and Michael McQuarn.
Roberson says that in pursuit of the promised prizes, he "agreed to give up his rights to privacy and publicity, allowing defendants to film all aspects of his life in connection with the contest," and agreed "not to pursue other acting or commercial opportunities from before filming until a year after the first episode aired."
Roberson seeks damages for breach of contract and misrepresentation.
He demands at least $750,000 and wants the acting deals he says he was promised.
He is represented in Superior Court by Alex Weingarten with Spillane Weingarten.
