Reality Show Creator Pursues Spanish ‘Bride’

LOS ANGELES (CN) - The creator of the Turkish reality television series "Will You Be My Bride?" says Spanish-language network Azteca America broadcast an unauthorized version of his show under the name "Suegras," or "Mothers-In-Law."

The show, which focuses on the relationships between "potential brides and their prospective mother-in-laws," was Turkey's highest-rated reality television series when creator Luftu Uckardesler licensed it for distribution throughout Europe and the Middle East. After the success of the show's first season, Turkish production company Sinevizyon created an identical show called "May I Call You Mom?" That show aired for one season before the Turkish Patent Institute handed the rights to the twin over to Uckardesler, the lawsuit says.

The plaintiffs say Azteca licensed "May I Call You Mom?" from Sinevizyon, ignoring the company's dubious authority over the show.

Azteca allegedly aired 60 episodes before the plaintiffs caught it.

Uckardesler and licensing company Global Agency Limited are represented in Federal Court by Jacob Bach.
