Rap Label Founder Faces|Murder Conspiracy Case

MANHATTAN (CN) - Hip-hop mogul James Rosemond was indicted along with five other men on charges of conspiring to kill Lowell Fletcher, an associate of the rapper 50 Cent, weeks after Rosemond admitted to helping plan a failed 1994 hit on rapper Tupac Shakur.

"These defendants operated like a mini-gang, allegedly committing a revenge killing, and a host of drug and firearms offenses," Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a press release.

Rosemond, aka Jimmy the Henchman, is the founder of Czar Entertainment, a rap music management company that has repped the likes of Game, 50 Cent, Akon, Brandy and boxer Mike Tyson.

Fletcher and others from rap label G-Unit, a Czar Entertainment rival, allegedly assaulted Rosemond's son, James Rosemond Jr., prompting the elder Rosemond to order Rodney Johnson, Brian McCleod, Derrick Grant, Jason Williams and Sean Williams to shoot and kill Fletcher, according to investigators.

The men allegedly gunned down Fletcher in the Bronx in 2009 in exchange for drugs.

The indictment comes on the heels of Rosemond's June 5 conviction for trafficking millions of dollars worth of cocaine.

"This has not been a good month for Jimmy the Henchman," said New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

The case has been assigned to U.S. District Court Judge Colleen McMahon. All six alleged conspirators face the possibility of life in prison.

Rosemond has also been implicated in the notorious 1990s east coast/west coast feud that resulted in the deaths of Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace, known as Biggie Smalls. After his drug conviction earlier this month, Rosemond admitted to taking part in planning the failed 1994 attempt to kill Tupac Shakur in New York City.
