‘Rainbow’ Trout Sues Gunslingers over Brawl

TEXARKANA, Texas (CN) - Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Steve "Rainbow" Trout says he was severely beaten during an onfield brawl between the Texarkana Gunslingers and the Corpus Christi Beach Dawgs of the Continental Baseball League. Trout, who managed the Gunslingers in 2008, says the team had inadequate security and fired him for "insisting that he be provided with a safe working environment."

Trout sued the team's parent company, TXAR Professional Baseball, in Bowie County Court.

The fight occurred May 30, 2008, early in the Gunslinger's inaugural season.

Trout says he was "thrown to the ground, beaten, kicked repeatedly and severely injured" while trying to break up the brawl.

He blames the lack of security at the and adds that TXAR is liable for his injuries because it did not carry workers' compensation insurance at the time.

Trout spent 13 years in the Major Leagues, pitching for the Cubs, the White Sox, the Mariners and the Yankees. His father, Paul "Dizzy" Trout, played for the Detroit Tigers and later was a broadcaster for the White Sox.

Trout seeks unspecified damages. He is represented by Craig Keener of Houston.
