Railroads Must Inspect|Bridges Annually

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Transportation Department has issued a rule requiring railroad track owners to implement bridge management programs, which include annual inspections, and to audit the programs.

Additionally, track owners must know the safe load capacity of bridges and must conduct special inspections if the weather or other conditions warrant them.

The rules apply to nearly 100,000 U.S. railroad bridges, which are owned by over 600 entities.
