Quincy Jones III|Sues Distributor

LOS ANGELES (CN) - Quincy Jones III sued an entertainment distributor for an accounting and "substantial sums" he believes are due him.

QD3 Entertainment sued Image Entertainment, in Superior Court, alleging breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty.

QD3 was founded by Quincy Delight Jones III, son of music legend Quincy Jones, a jazz master, composer and arranger who went on to produce copious record albums, including Michael Jackson's.

Jones III describes himself in the lawsuit as a "next gen" producer of "pop culture content on multiple platforms including DVD, TV, film, music, web, mobile and gaming."

He is best known for his documentaries on hip-hop, including a series called "Beef" and "The Carter," a documentary about Lil Wayne.

QD3 and Image signed a contract on Aug. 7, 2001, in which Image was to distribute his programs, provide him an accounting, and a percentage of revenue, Jones says in the complaint.

"Image has not provided the required accountings for any period of time after Dec. 31, 2009 and has not pad QD3 its share of the monies guaranteed after that date," according to the lawsuit.

Jones believes "substantial sums are due from Image to QD3."

On July 13, 2010, he says, a court entered judgment in favor of QD3 for $475,410 and terminated the license agreement for nine programs, including four "Beef" flicks and a Tupac Shakur documentary. He claims that Image continued to collect money during the 6½ months from the date of the last accounting, Dec. 31, 2009, and the date of judgment.

In February 2011, he says, the parties entered into a settlement agreement, under which the license was not terminated, Image would continue to distribute the titles, and provide an accounting and pay him his due.

Jones says that hasn't happened.

He seeks an accounting, money and damages.
