WASHINGTON (CN) - Qualcomm Inc. did not infringe on Broadcom Corp.'s patent for wireless devices, the Federal Circuit ruled. Broadcom sued Qualcomm, alleging infringements on five of its patents for devices containing baseband processor chips.
The lawsuit centered on devices that can go into "sleep mode" and store messages for future delivery.
Judge Bryson agreed with the International Trade Commission that Qualcomm's handsets differ from Broadcom's in that they can go into sleep mode, but are not required to do so.
Bryson also ruled that no evidence existed to show that Qualcomm intended to copy the technology of a second terminal that attempts to minimize power usage by the wireless receiver.
