Purchased Pig Slop|Must Be Cooked

WASHINGTON (CN) - Industrially processed materials that contain meat must be boiled for half an hour before they are fed to pigs, according to amendments to Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service regulations.

The amendments went into effect on an interim basis April 8, and have been adopted without change.

The rules, which are for killing disease that may affect swine, and, in turn, humans, are the same as for other regulated meat garbage, except for "processed product." Processed product, by the inspection agency's definition, has already been treated to prevent spoilage.
