Public officials, public places

NEW ORLEANS — The mayor of New Orleans, LaToya Cantrell, lost the stalking protection order she was granted by a trial court, which barred a photographer from taking photos of the mayor and a member of her security detail on the balcony of a restaurant. The photographer had been standing on her own balcony, across from the restaurant. The act of photographing public officials in public places is protected by the First Amendment.
