Provenance

MANHATTAN - A family filed suit to recover a Russian imperial snuff box that they say was stolen during the war years after Emperor Nicholas II presented it to their ancestor, Bulgarian minister Dimitri Stancioff, in 1899.

Christie's has yet to consummate the sale of this gold and jeweled box to someone who bid $550,000 for it at auction this past May, according to the complaint.
