LOS ANGELES (CN) - A promoter sued Katt Williams for $1.7 million, claiming the much-sued comedian failed to show for stand-up shows and defamed him as "bogus" on the air.
99 Ways Entertainment sued Micah S. Katt Williams on Friday in Superior Court, claiming Williams failed appear for stand up shows in Houston, Mobile, and Kansas City in late 2012.
Williams, 43, then missed shows in Indiana, Florida and South Carolina in 2013, according to the lawsuit.
99 Ways says it paid Williams an advance of $737,500 for the shows.
It claims that Williams apologized and promised to make it up to the company, but never delivered.
"Subsequent to defendant Williams' failure to perform, he appeared on multiple radio shows and slandered the business of plaintiff as a promoter thereby, damaging plaintiff's professional relationships with venues and other performers," the 11-page complaint states.
99 Ways says that Williams called it a "bogus promoter" on the radio.
The promoter demands at least $1,729,900 in damages for breach of contract, deceit, unfair business practices, slander, expenses and lost profits. It is represented by David Olan.
Williams has been sued at least 12 other times since 2008, according to the Courthouse News database, twice for other alleged financial irregularities, and four times for alleged violence or threats of violence.
