Producer Says Attorney Owes $140,000

BRONX, N.Y. (CN) - A producer and his companies have sued attorney Solomon Kaplan in Bronx County Court, claiming he failed to negotiate a settlement with Sony Music Entertainment and refused to turn over $140,000 that had been placed in escrow for negotiations.

Sony filed suit against James Grimes, Blazen Entertainment Group and Jay Gee Productions after it mistakenly wired $200,000 into their bank account. Grimes hired Kaplan to settle the claim and put $140,000 in Kaplan's escrow account to be used for the anticipated settlement, the lawsuit claims.

Kaplan never used the money to negotiate, settle or pay the Sony claim, but allowed Sony to take a judgment against the plaintiffs, the suit states. Kaplan allegedly kept the $140,000. Plaintiffs want their money back. They are represented by Mark Kressner. See complaint.
