Pro Athletes Sued|in Loan Default Case

CLAYTON, Mo. (CN) - Retired professional athletes Orlando Pace and Keith Tkachuk are among the defendants in a lawsuit over an alleged $1.1 million defaulted loan.

Triad Bank on July 11 sued Grand Slam Sports LLC and nine people, including Pace and Tkachuk, over a pair of defaulted loans worth more than $1.1 million, in St. Louis County Court.

Pace, a former St. Louis Ram, is on the hook for 18.55 percent of the loans, while Tkachuk, a former St. Louis Blue, guaranteed 10.6 percent of the loans, the complaint states.

Grand Slam owns two St. Louis-area AM radio stations. Dan Marshall, also named as a defendant, oversaw Grand Slam until stepping down in June after a physical altercation involving one of the station's on-air personalities, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Marshall spent 15 months as Grand Slam's managing partner and president. He made waves when he switched the stations' sports talk format to guy talk on one station and girl talk on the other. During that span, several employees complained about payroll and other issues under Marshall's leadership, according to the Post-Dispatch.

Pace was the No. 1 overall pick by the Rams in 1997. He was the cornerstone of the Rams' offensive line during the "Greatest Show on Turf" era. He played 12 seasons for the Rams and was named to seven Pro Bowls.

Tkachuk was a first round draft pick by Winnipeg in the 1990 NHL draft. Tkachuk, a left winger, spent nine seasons of his 20-year career with the Blues. In 1,201 career games, Tkachuk scored 538 goals and had 527 assists.
