Private Prison Hired Molester| And Extended Boys’ Sentences, 7 Say

SAN ANTONIO (CN) - The Geo Group knowingly hired a registered sex offender as a juvenile prison guard and he sexually molested seven boys at the Coke County Juvenile Justice Center in Bronte, Texas, the boys claim in Federal Court. The Geo Group also added time to boys' sentences and made them serve it out, based on "sentences" determined by company employees, without due process, in violation of judicial orders, the boys say.

Geo Group is based in Boca Raton, Fla., and has a regional office in New Braunfels, Texas. It hired David Andrew Lewis in August 2006 and made him a prison guard despite Lewis' informing it that he was a registered sex offender, the complaint states. All seven say Lewis abused them sexually, physically and/or emotionally, under "the blind and errant eyes of his supervisors, managers and employer, Defendants GEO."

They claim Geo has "a policy of adding time to the original judicially ordered sentence." They demand punitive damages for negligence, gross negligence, and constitutional violations. They are represented by Gregory Gowan with the Watts Law Firm of Corpus Christi.

CNS is not providing a link to the text of the case because of the nature of the allegations.
