Pricey Cleanup of Polluted|Site Is Done, Says EPA

WASHINGTON (CN) - A 24-acre industrial site in Norwood, Mass. will be deleted from the Environmental Protection Agency's list of sites polluted by industrial waste.

All required clean up work has been completed, according to the agency.

The property was used by various owners to manufacture electrical components, leaving behind benzene, toluene, ethylbensen and trichloroethylene in the soil and ground water.

Parts of the site already have been redeveloped with new commercial buildings and single story retail buildings.

Since the site was first listed in 1983, the EPA has recovered over $18 million from former owners and operators of the site to pay for the extensive remediation work required, including the creation of an on-site waste water treatment plant.
