Poultry Farmers Lose Discrimination Appeal

BOSTON (CN) – Two poultry farmers who claimed the Puerto Rican Department of Agriculture denied them loans and tax credits because they chose not to join a government-sponsored production “nucleus” failed to convince the 1st Circuit that they were victims of foul treatment.

The court affirmed dismissal of their discrimination claim, saying the farmers failed to show that Puerto Rico’s procedures for awarding loans violated their due-process rights, or that plaintiffs had a legitimate ownership over the loans and tax credits.
