Pottawotamies Sue To Stop Highway

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (CN) - The Pottawotamie Indians and the Sierra Club sued the Federal Highway Administration and the Kansas Department of Transportation to keep them from building a multilane freeway through the "environmentally important, historic and sacred" Haskell-Baker Wetlands near Lawrence, Kansas.

Plaintiffs want the South Lawrence Trafficway enjoined. Plaintiffs include the Wetlands Preservation Organization, Jayhawk Audubon Society, Save the Wakarusa Wetlands Inc., Kansas University Environs, and Ecojustice.

They are represented in Federal Court by Robert Eye with Irigonegaray & Associates of Topeka.
