Polls Show Tightening Race in Florida, Nevada

(CN) - While Hillary Clinton continued to show strength in a series of polls released Thursday, there is also evidence that the Democrat's race for the White House against Republican Donald Trump is tightening in the battleground states of Nevada and Florida.

The vast majority of polls show Clinton either surging and moving decisively ahead of her GOP challenger or with a much more modest but consistent lead over him.

Among the most positive polls for Clinton is the latest AP-GFH survey, which has the former secretary of state leading Trump nationally by 14 points. Thursday's ABC News Tracking poll has her up by 7 points in a head-to-head matchup with Trump, and up by 6 points in a four-person race that includes Libertarian Gary Johnson and the Green Party's Jill Stein.

Other polls, from Rasmussen Reporters and Investor's Business Daily, have Clinton up by 1-point and 2-points, respectively, and the latest Los Angeles Times/USC tracking poll which had long been favorable to Trump now has the race as a tie.

But it's in the smaller snapshots - state polls in key states where there are signs of movement in the race.

A new Bloomberg Politics polls now shows Trump with a 2-point edge over Clinton in Florida, a state in which earlier polls showed the Democrat with a decisive 4-point lead.

The Bloomberg poll shows Trump with the support of 45 percent of likely voters, compared to Clinton's 43 percent. Gary Johnson gets 4 percent in the poll, while Jill Stein holds steady at 2 percent.

The pollsters attribute Trump's gain to his advantage among Florida Independents, 44 percent of whom support the billionaire real estate developer compared to 37 percent who support Clinton.

Meanwhile, a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll in Nevada shows Clinton and Trump are now tied among likely voters, with both receiving the support of 43 percent of likely voters. Johnson gets 10 percent. Stein isn't on the ballot in the state.

On Monday, a Las Vegas Review Journal poll had Clinton up by 7 points in Nevada, and a KTNV/Rasmussen poll had her up by 4-points in the state.

But the positive news for Trump on Thursday largely ended there. Of six other state polls released Thursday morning, the Republican candidate leads in only one a Southern Media and Opinion Research Poll that has him up by 15 points in Louisiana.

Clinton currently leads by 26 points in California (according to the latest PPIC Statewide Survey), by 7 points in Pennsylvania (New York Times/Siena) and in Michigan (Detroit Free Press), and by 5 points in New Hampshire (UMass Amherst.WBZ).
