OAKLAND, Calif. — A federal court in California granted summary judgment to the state’s attorney general in a suit brought by the Progressive Democrats for Social Justice challenging a statute that prohibits local employees from soliciting political contributions from their co-workers. The plaintiff group is a club chartered by the Democratic Party of Santa Clara, and half of its members are county employees.
The order notes that under the challenged statute “local employees are still permitted to solicit partisan political donations in broad solicitation.”
